On to Battle Mountain

Riding Day 8
Sunday, June 10, 2018

Winnemucca to Battle Mountain, Nevada
54.8 miles
1,539' elevation
3 hours 33 minutes
15 mph average speed
32.9 max spreed
1436 calories

We left the hotel at 8 am today. Temps in low 40's but slowly warmed to mid 50s and up to 60. One long climb up to Mt Golconda with SAG stop at top followed by 10 mile descent where I felt as cold as I've been so far on tour. We were on interstate most of the day but traveled safely and fast with tail winds pushing us along except for the last 10 miles into a brisk headwind. ugh.

Remind me to tell you about Good John. Had interesting conversation with him today. The people are the interesting part of the ride.

Scene from hotel lobby
It's a brisk 45 degrees but the sun is warm at 7:00 am

Trucker with their Mini Cooper in the trunk
Saw this on way to dinner in Winnemucca

Desert colors on way to Battle Mountain

Parched earth...lot of it around here

 More color

 SAG stop on interstate

Pretty flat today with tail winds...means fast ride to hotel

 Huge skyline...

Most of day spent on Interstate
Roads in great shape so traveling was a breeze

My cockpit...All the data I need...
Elapsed Time, Calories burned, Cadence, Speed,
Power in Watts, Power Zone (1-6), Heart Rate, Distance,
Current Temp, and Time of day

 Western White butterfly
They were along highway - too cold to move

Plan for tonight's activity, and tomorrow's start to Elko

  1. Hey! The weird dedication date on the Gravely Ford plaque has to do with the sponsoring fraternal organization, E. Clampus Vitus, (whose Latin motto translates to "I believe because it's absurd"). They (absurdly) claim their founding date as 4004 B.C., which means the year 6008 on the plaque translates to our year 2004 CE. Those Western frat boys are a barrel of laughs!
